Shipping
Information
Generally, as a trade practice, we sell our price ex our shop, not including
any shipping cost as it is very difficult to quote ahead. There could
be a big difference between sea shipment, air shipment, fully insured,
partly insured and loss insurance for a piece. To be simple, we quote
our lowest price ex our shop. It may worth 4 times the value in the
US market.
Please note the following advice on packing, insurance and shipping
of your purchases.
Packing
We have packed more than thousand of antiquities and we even taught
museum, and auction houses to do the packing. We provide free packing
service as a courtesy. Clients can arrange their own professional packing
via agents namely: Jardine Logistics and Michelle Int’l Transportation.
Generally, they charge HK$ 1000 per piece on average. Insurance premium
is 4% of the insured value.
Insurance
Generally, there are two major types of insurance: -
(A) All risks (full) insurance covers damage:
1. Loss or damage to the subject-matter insured reasonably attributable
to fire or explosion, vessel or craft being stranded grounded sunk or
capsized overturning or derailment or land conveyance, collision or
contact of vessel craft or conveyance with any external object other
than water discharge of cargo at a port of distress, loss of or damage
to subject-matter insured caused by general average sacrifice jettison.
2. In the event of damage to the items insured, liability will be restricted
to reasonable cost of repairs and no claim is recoverable in respect
of depreciation. This means the final compensation may be the restoration
fee only. Clients are advised not to buy insurance at full value if
he/she feels that total loss/damages would not be the case.
3. For full insurance (include breakage), the insured items have to
be packed by the appointed agent. Generally, full insurance does not
cover the following:
• Loss, damage or expense arising from pre-existing damage of
the interest insured, even though such damaged has been repaired or
restored, partly or completely
• Loss of market, delay, loss of use, clean up cost
4. Please noted that claim is subjected to policy excess a certain
percentage of the shipment value. Generally, the minimum is HK$ 1000.
Following we assume a piece in a total loss or damage condition:
• The insured value is HKD 100,000
• It is subject to policy excess 1% of insured value
• In case of total loss the maximum amount of reimbursement would
be:
HKD 99000 [ HKD100,000 x (1-1%) ]
5. There will be a survey fee, which will be refunded if the claim
is successful. If the claim is rejected, the clients have to bear the
survey fee which is HK$ 1500 - HK$ 2000 on average.
6. If the damage is less than HK$1000, client may get no compensation
from the insurance company. Insurance premium is 3% - 4% of the insured
value. [ Please refer to the related agent as the rate might vary ]
(B) Total loss insurance covers:
Total loss only insurance covers accident that cause a total loss due
to vessel or craft being stranded, grounded, sunk or capsized.
Credit Card
Some credit cards may provide you the damage insurance, please check
with your bank whether you are entitled to such policy.
(C) Shipping by Federal Express
1. It is the most cost-effective way for various antique items.
2. Limit of liability is USD 500 for antique items per air waybill.
3. In case of loss or damage, immediately notice should be made within
15 days from the date on which the shipment should have been delivered.
Otherwise, claim cannot be applied.
4. Although the maximum insurance of coverage of FedEx is USD 500, which
is good enough for general damage accident. We find that they never
loss the items as they have a very good computer tracking system to
locate the parcel.
5. Although some shipping agents can arrange full insurance, but the
total shipping cost may be doubled.
6. Calculation by volume weight (L x W x H / 366)
In order to make the piece arrive safely, please add at least 5 inches
to each side for packing. The more inches you add the more expensive
it is, of course, the safer it is.
For example:
Size of item: 5” x 10” x 5”
Estimated size after packing: 15” x 20” x 15”
Volume Weight: (15 x 20 x 15) / 366 = 12.3kg
Shipping cost = volume weight (kg) x rate/ kg
(D) Tax & Duties
Clients will bear any taxes or duties related to the import of items
to their country.
(E) Wooden Box
Taking safety into consideration, packing into wooden box is recommended.
It costs from HK$300 ~ HK$600 each depending on the size.
